Kim Shaw

Global Reach Coordinator

I am a born & bred Cantabrian who has lived most of my adult life away from that region, enjoying the adventure of life that has taken me to many other places around the world, but I will find any excuse to return to my homebase of Te Wai Pounamu, to soak in the beauty and simplicity of the natural world of the South. I am married to Dan and we have three children and have been living in Stokes Valley in Lower Hutt since 2015.

During my study at University of Canterbury, the TSCF group there provided a community in which to grow in my faith and understanding of the Bible, encouraged me to put my faith into action on campus and challenged me to think  deeply and creatively about how my teaching training could be used for God’s Kingdom both in NZ and overseas and leadership opportunities that gave me confidence to continue serving God in the local church.

This led to a diverse career of teaching in state schools in NZ and the UK, working in schools-based youth work, state school chaplaincy and alternative education and spending seven years in education and pastoral care for missionary families in SE Asia. Theological study has continued to challenge and influence the life of mission that God has called me to. I have also trained as a ministry leadership coach as I am passionate about seeing people well supported and flourishing in ministry.

In 2016 I rejoined TSCF as a staffworker to walk alongside a new generation of students. My vision in this role is to see students meet and grow in their love for Jesus and to live undivided lives of authentic love for Jesus on campus and beyond. Ministry, primarily at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington, involves introducing some to Jesus through the gospels, discipling others in their fledgling journey, training and mentoring student leaders and prayerfully supporting them all as ambassadors of Jesus among their peers on campus or across the oceans.

I also support our national TSCF community with Global Reach, equipping students around the country to form authentic friendships with international students and to grow in their understanding of God’s global mission. Sending students overseas on Global Reach Journeys to discover for themselves the world God has created and is at work in to bring all peoples to Himself and seeing God transform their hearts to be more aligned with His is a real privilege.
